Gylfi Sigurdsson is an Icelandic footballer who plays for Swansea City and the Iceland national football team. Having began his career at Reading Sigurdsson has also played for Shrewsbury Town, Crewe Alexandra, 1899 Hoffenheim and Tottenham Hotspur.
Gylfi Sigurdsson was born on the 8th of September 1989 in Iceland. He began his career at English club Reading where he played 42 matches for the club scoring 10 goals. He went to Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra on loan during his time at the club. In 2010 he signed for 1899 Hoffenheim. He made his debut for the club in a 2-0 win over FC Schalke 04.
In May 2011 he was voted as the clubs Fans Player of the Season. He played 36 matches scoring nine goals for the club. He played for Swansea City on loan where he made a name for himself. He played 18 matches scoring seven goals for the club. He is a player with superior shot power who can score from long range. In July 2012 he signed a deal at Tottenham Hotspur. He scored his first goal for the club in a friendly against Stevenage. He scored his first competitive goal against Carlisle United in a 3-0 win. Sigurdsson can also play just behind the striker in a centre attacking midfield role. In the summer of 2014 Sigurdsson signed for Swansea City.
Sigurdsson has played for Iceland U-17, U-18, U-19 and U-21 sides and he made his senior debut in 2010 against San Marino in a 6-0 win. In recent years Sigurdsson has become a pivotal player for Iceland.
