Vancouver Whitecaps are a Canadian football club who currently play in the MLS and they player their home games wearing an all white home kit which is supplied by adidas. The club were founded in 2009 and they play an intense rivalry against Toronto FC and the Montreal Impact. The club have never won the MLS but have won the Canadian Championship on three occasions in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
The Vancouver Whitecaps are another club with 2 histories. The first incarnation of the team played in the infamous NASL in the 1970s and 80s. Their greatest achievement was victory in the 1979 Soccer Ball, the climax of the old NASL season. Enroute to the final, the Whitecaps recorded a famous victory over the galaticos of the New York Cosmos, before beating the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-1 in the final. When the NASL folded in 1984, the Whitecaps, like many of the NASL teams, folded with it.

However, the Whitecaps were revived in 1986, under the name Vancouver 86'ers, named not after the year of formation but also after the year 1886, the year when the town itself was established. The 86'ers won four straight Canadian championships between 1988 and '91. The team reverted to the old Whitecaps name in 2001.
The Whitecaps play in the USL First Division, winning the championship in 2006, after having finished 4th in the regular season. The team's colours are white and blue, and they currently play at Swanguard Stadium in Burnaby, British Columbia. However, plans are in place for a new purpose-built stadium, in Vancouver itself.
