West Ham United’s 2023/24 Umbro home had all the makings of a classic Hammer shirt. It had a distinctive claret body outfitted with the sleeves in the traditional sky blue secondary colour detail, capped off with broad sleeve cuffs in the primary shade. Moreover, the front exhibited a unique bubble pattern, weaving in to the very fabric the Hammer’s anthem ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles.’ Such design carried a weighted dynamic inside the London Stadium, most especially when the fans belted out the anthem wearing the said shirt.

For the 2022/23 season, West Ham United adorned its traditionally claret home shirt with graphics on the panels along the raglan sleeves. The visuals featured a scratched and faded look of stripes in white and sky blue. Considering the similarity of the striping pattern to the one seen on the 1991/93 home shirt, the presentation of the design seemed to represent how the club stood the test of time. A wide round collar that was sky blue on the front side and white at the back capped off the jersey’s final look. Umbro was the kit maker of the shirt.

The Hammers had a familiar colour combination with their 2021/22 Umbro home shirt. The body and the inner side of the sleeves were claret, while the outer side of the sleeves up to the shoulders were sky blue. A noticeable white border separated the two, creating a unique identity in the club’s catalogue of home kits. The same colour pattern applied to the unbuttoned polo collar and sleeve cuffs, albeit in reverse order.
2020/21 West Ham Home Shirt
The Umbro home kit of West Ham United for the 2020/21 season was called the Commemorative 125th Anniversary and was said to be inspired by the team’s greatest periods consisting of FA Cup titles and a European Cup victory, as well as the foundation of the Academy of Football. Furthermore, the kit’s final design was a result of consultation with supporters, creating a truly Hammers’ shirt in the process. The home kit kept the Irons’ traditional colours with a claret melange body and light blue sleeves. The shirt featured a blue crew-neck collar and claret sleeve cuffs. Other light blue applications were the monochrome Umbro and club logos, with the West Ham crest having a subtle claret outline. Only the main sponsor ‘betway’ branding appeared in white.
West Ham Away Kits

West Ham’s 2022/23 Umbro away shirt was black with white monochrome logos, offering a focused and serious look for the most part. Only the abstract combination of pink, white, and blue geometric shapes on the sleeve cuffs provided some visual activity to the otherwise plain-looking jersey. The vibrant detailing took inspiration from the 100-year-old ship slipway at Thames Ironworks, which was uncovered in the construction of the recently-opened Elizabeth line.

Like the home kit, the away strip of West Ham United for the 2020/21 season was commemorative of the club’s 125th anniversary. The club’s golden period during the 60s, a time when they won the FA Cup and European Cup as well as three players for the World Cup-winning 1966 England national side, was the inspiration behind the kit’s design. The shirt was primarily vista blue with several claret applications, most notably the two bands that were broad and horizontal forming on the chest and ribs sections. The cuffs and round collar were also claret.
