Georginio Wijnaldum is a Dutch footballer who plays in the attacking midfield position for Newcastle United in the Premier League and the Netherlands national team. Possessing electric pace alongside gifted technique and ball wizardry, Wijnaldum has posed as a serious attacking threat through scoring a number of goals and chipping in with assists throughout his career to date.
Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Wijnaldum began playing competitive football for local academy side Sparta Rotterdam of whom are notorious for developing young talent into future stars of the game. Progressing through the youth ranks with Sparta Rotterdam from 1997-2004, bigger club Feyenoord were attracted to the pace and direct play of Wijnaldum and subsequently accepted an offer from the club to switch teams. Showcasing a clear ability and maturity for the game, Wijnaldum was prematurely given his first team debut within the Eredivisie aged just 16 thus making him Feyenoord's youngest ever player. Increasing of importance within the Feyenoord side over the course of the following three seasons, one of Netherland's top sides, PSV, secured the services of Wijnaldum in a deal worth €5 million. Wijnaldum's transfer to PSV saw the player instantly included within the starting line-up and pose as the club's most attacking threat of which was backed-up by Wijanldum's incredible goal scoring and assist stats of 56 and 23 respectively in his 152 appearances. Wijnaldum's consistent fine form brought attention from various giants of European football however it was the Premier League outfit of Newcastle United who managed to make Wijnaldum their latest star to adorn the black and white striped shirt through a transfer fee of £14.5 million.
Now a Newcastle United player, Wijnaldum hopes to continue the performances shown already in the striped uniform of which included a phenomenal four goal haul in a 6-2 victory over Norwich in the Premier League giving Newcastle the confidence to push on from a troubled start to the 2015/16 campaign.
Wijnaldum has been a part of the Netherlands national team since 2011 which has saw the player included within the FIFA 2014 World Cup squad seeing a Third Place medal being achieved alongside being granted the title of Dutch Footballer of the Year award for the 2014/15 season.
