VFL Wolfsburg are a German football team who were founded in 1945. In their founding year, Wolfsburg very nearly folded. All of their players apart from one joined local rivals 1 FC Wolfsburg. The remaining player, Josef Meyer, worked with the manager to recruit new signings and kept the team alive. Wolfsburg made slow and steady progress by winning several amateur championships but struggling to make it into the top division.
Wolfsburg began their professional career with jerseys in green and white, colours that are still used today. The story was that the local trainer back then had ten green jerseys sewn with the white bed sheets donated by the public.

Wolfsburg 2022/23 Nike home shirt sported a bright light pastel green shirt with a tonal pattern representing a prototype from principal sponsor Volkswagen. The uncollared v-neckline provided a loose and relaxed vibe, while the angled deep blue sleeve cuffs gave a sense of distinctness and eccentricity.

The Wolves of Bundesliga shine bright with their Nike 2021/22 home shirt. It has a light lime green base adorned with a dazzle camo graphic inspired by the camouflage used to hide features of the unreleased cars of Volkswagen. White accents come from the logos, sleeve cuffs, and V-collar with front overlap.

2022/23 Wolfsburg Away Shirt
Wolfsburg fans, during away matches, recognised their players on the pitch in 2022/23 as those with kits in dark green. The primary colour was called ‘Seaweed,’ the same one used for the Nigeria 2020 away. Providing the secondary applications for the sleeve cuffs and round collar (both bordered in blue) was a lighter shade of green called ‘Sub Lime.’ The Wolfsburg’s home jersey’s sleeves for 2020/21 enabled one to familiarise and get acclimated to the tone of the ‘Sub Lime’ accents.
2021/22 Wolfsburg Away Shirt
On away, Wolfsburg sports a Nike 2021/22 shirt with a design opposite of the home jersey. From the vibrancy and activity of the latter, the away kit opts for a darker and simpler look. Two dark shades of green dominate the shirt, the Pro green on the body and the Cosmic Bonsai on the raglan sleeves and v-collar with side overlaps. The bottom half of the sleeves are striped. Lime green accents come from the logos and the linear details on the collar.
When the Bundesliga was formed in 1963, Wolfsburg found themselves playing in the second tier of German football. In 1970, the club had the opportunity to achieve promotion back to the Bundesliga. However, they performed poorly in the end of season play offs to leave them stranded in the second tier. A further relegation in the mid 1970s saw the club playing their trade as a third tier team for over fifteen years. They won promotion back to the second tier in 1992 before a defeat in the German Cup final where they lost to Borussia Mochengladbach 3-0.
Finally the team achieved promotion to the Bundesliga in 1997 and developed into a steady mid table side. In 1999, Wolfsburg finished 5th and qualified for the UEFA Cup. Further Intertoto Cup appearances in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005 saw the team established as a solid Bundesliga side. In 2006 and 2007 though, the club narrowly escaped relegation as their performances significantly dropped.
This was to only be a brief decline though as Felix Magath was hired and immediately led the club to their joint best domestic finish in 5th. The following year in 2009, they achieved a phenomenal feat by winning the Bundesliga title for the first time in their history. This also saw them progress to the Champions League for the first time where they finished 3rd in their group demoting them to the Europa League where they were eventually knocked out by Fulham.
