Zamalek were the first club to win an Egyptian league other than Al-Ahly when they triumphed in 1960. Although their rivals have largely dominated the division, Zamalek are by far their closest challengers after winning the league 11 times, their most recent triumphed being in 2004.
Al-Zamalek are an Egyptian football club who were founded in 1911. They are considered to be one of the more successful clubs in Egypt and have a fierce rivalry with record Egyptian league winners Al-Ahly. The team play their home matches at the Cairo international stadium and are currently managed by inexperienced coach and former Egypt international Hossam Hassan.
The club also has an impressive record in the Egyptian Cup with 21 victories, their latest being in 2008.
The African Champions League has also been a successful competition for Zamalek with the Egyptian club winning the tournament on five occasions to date.
