Zambia are known as the Copper Bullets (Chipolopolo), this stems from the fact that copper is the countries major export and the quick players in the Zambian team. Tragedy struck in 1993 when a plane bound for a World Cup qualifier against Senegal, with the national team on board crashed off the coast of Gabon, 30 people died including 18 players and the national coach. A rebuilt team almost won the African Nations Cup in 1994, only to narrowly lose to Nigeria 2-1, despite the loss, the players were already set in the hearts of their nation.
