Zinedine Zidane was born on the 23rd of June, 1972 in Marseille, France. Zidane is of Algerian descent as his parents moved to France in 1953. At the age of ten he played for his first youth side US Saint-Henry. Zidane's fisrt club was Cannes where he remained at the club for four years. He made his debut aged 17 years in a Ligue 1 match against Nantes. He played 61 matches for the club scoring 6 goals.
In 1992 he moved to Bordeaux, helping the club win the 1995 Intertoto Cup. He was linked to sign with Blackburn Rovers but instead he joined Italian giants Juventus in 1996, having moved for £3.2 million, he helped the club win the 1996-97 Serie A title and a season later he netted seven goals in 32 matches as the club won another Serie A title. In 2001 he signed a world record transfer worth &euro75 million to join Real Madird. He scored a sensational goal for them in the 2002 UEFA Champions League final against Bayer Leverkusen in which they won 2-1. He helped the club win the 2002-03 La Liga and he was also named FIFA World Player of the Year for the third time that season.
Zidane made his international debut in August 1994 in a match against Czech Republic which ended in a 2-2 draw. Zidane famosuly netted a brace in the 1998 FIFA World Cup Final against Brazil. Two years later France won the EURO 2000 which made France the first team to hold both the FIFA World Cup and the EURO at the same time. In the 2006 FIFA World Cup final he received a red card for an off the ball challenge with Marco Materazzi. He announced his retirement after the loss against Italy. He played 108 matches for France scoring 49 goals.
Zidane's major honours include 1998, 2000 and 2003 FIFA World Player of the Year, 1998 and 2002 French Player of the Year, one UEFA Champions League, two Serie A titles, one La Liga title, one FIFA World Cup and one UEFA EURO Championship.
